In the evening, after the aarti, people participate in Dandiya and Garbha, a traditional folk dance performed collectively by the people.

Of the four Navratris – Magha (winter season), Chaitra (spring), Ashadh (rainy season) and Sharad (autumn) – the last is the most important.

Sharad or Sharadiya Navratri is started in September / October as indicated by the Gregorian schedule.

Goddess Paksha begins after Amavasya Tithi (Amavasya) in Ashwin month and ends on Navami on a promising day before Dussehra.

Ghatasthapana is one of the important rituals during Navratri. It marks the beginning of the nine-day festival. In our scriptures, the rules and guidelines for performing Ghatasthapana during a certain period at the beginning of Navratri are well defined.

Ghatasthapana is the call of Goddess Shakti and Goddess Durga can also be angry if it is set at the wrong time. It is prohibited to perform Ghatasthapana Amavasya and at night.

Time For Ghatasthapana

During Ghatasthapana it is advised to avoid Nakshatra Chitra and Validriti Yoga, but they are not prohibited. The most important factor to consider is that Ghatasthapana is done before noon in Hindu tradition whereas Pratipada is prevalent.

Ways Of Ghatasthapana For Navratri 2020

First, clean the earthen pot and place seven types of grains in it.

Now fill water in the Kalash and tie Kalawa on its neck and place it on top of the earthen pot.

Now tie the Kalash on the neck of the Kalash and fill the neck with holy water i.e. Ganges water.

Add betel nut, perfume, durva grass, akshat and coin in the water.

Cover the 5 Ashoka leaves with the lid from the side of the urn.

Now take coconut without it and wrap it inside a red cloth.

Tie the coconut and red cloth with sacred thread.

Now place the coconut on top of the urn.

Finally install the urn in the middle of the earthen pot.

Now we have the Kalash which is ready to invoke Goddess Durga.
